Anderson progresses in Cincinnati

Cape Town - South Africa's No 1 player, Kevin Anderson, has reached the second round at the ATP Tour's Cincinnati Masters.

Anderson, the 15th-seed, beat Argentina's Leonardo Mayer 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 6-1.

Anderson will play American Jock Sock in the second round with the winner of that match likely to face former world No 1 Roger Federer in the following round.

Results on the third day of the ATP and WTA Cincinnati Masters on Tuesday (x denotes seeded player).
