Lovren: Croatia could be a surprise package at SWC

Cape Town - Dejan Lovren hopes Croatia can surprise a few teams at the 2018 Soccer World Cup, just like Liverpool did in the Champions League this past season.

The Reds defender was in action at Anfield on Sunday, but for his country and not his club.

Brazil clashed with Croatia at the ground in an international friendly clash as preparation for the World Cup.

The Selecao beat Croatia 2-0 thanks to goals from Neymar and Roberto Firmino, who was facing his Liverpool team-mate Lovren on the day.

"Maybe Bobby (Firmino) had a better reception than me, but I was quite satisfied at the end with the supporters," Lovren told the press, according to FourFourTwo.

"There were a lot of Croatian fans. It was good to be back, although in a different shirt.

"We liked to surprise a few in the Champions League and now (we hope for the same) with the national team."

On the game itself, Lovren added: "I think in the first half we did quite good, we had chances and they didn't.

"When you look at the result it looks bad, but the most important thing at the end is that everyone is fit and now we prepare for the next friendly.

"We still have 13 days to catch our form and I believe we can pass the group."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
