Cape Town - Louis van Gaal has confirmed Robin van Persie is a major doubt for Wednesday's World Cup semi-final against Argentina after coming down with a stomach bug.
The Manchester United striker was made to train by himself on the eve of this week's Arena de Sao Paulo encounter, and Van Gaal admits the forward could miss the match entirely.
"He (Van Persie) has a stomach problem, an intestinal problem. I don't know (if he will play)," Van Gaal said.
"I will decide (on Wednesday). Van Persie is our captain so he is very important to us.
"In principle, my captain always plays, but he has to be fit."
The striker's absence would come as a huge blow to the Dutch dream, with the Red Devils ace having bagged three goals so far in Brazil, although some good news for the side saw previously injured duo Ron Vlaar and Leroy Fer take part in training.
