Podolski to miss Algeria clash

Rio de Janeiro - Germany forward Lukas Podolski will miss the Soccer World Cup second-round match against Algeria on Monday in Porto Alegre because of a leg injury.

Coach Joachim Loew gave no details of the injury on Saturday but said it was not serious and that Podolski would have to rest two or three days.

Loew said it would be a "big risk" to let Podolski play and possibly worsen the injury but that he will be available for later games "if we manage to advance."

Loew said defender Jerome Boateng had a slight strain to his left knee but described it as "nothing serious."
