Podolski SWC Twitter winner

Cape Town - Despite his time on the field being limited to appearances in the group stage with games against USA and Portugal, Lukas Podolski proves that positivity within the squad is a much needed element after Germany were crowned the 2014 Soccer World Cup champions on Sunday.

As it happened: Germany v Argentina

The Arsenal forward was the German kingpin when it came to Twitter. Posting numerous pictures and “selfies” with his teammates and letting them know that he will tickle their funny bone throughout the tournament even if he does not get to slug it out with them on the field for 90 minutes.

Having played a 116 times for Die Mannschaft, Podolski has been part of two previous SWC campaigns where Germany were eliminated on both occasions in the semi-final stage, against Italy (2006) and Spain (2010) respectively.

Germany went all the way in 2014 but it took an extra-time  goal from Mario Götze to be crowned World champions for the fourth time in their history.
