Dear Editor,
I work outside of SA and I returned to Durban on the 11 June.
When I entered Durban, nothing could prepare me for the atmosphere that I would behold. I saw South African flags everywhere, vuvuzelas being blown etc. I quickly joined in the party by getting rear view mirror socks and flags for my car and a couple of South African shirts.
It was like I was in another place on Earth. Everyone I know was waiting for Bafana Bafana to kick off and get this extravagant competition of the world’s best footballers on the way.
But, besides all the excitement, I was so happy that finally I have seen with my own eyes the unity of the diverse races in our country.
White, black, coloured, Indian, all united as one, all forgetting their differences and standing as one race, together supporting one team, it was amazing.
I hope this kind of peace and unity will go beyond the World Cup.
South Africa, the most beautiful place on Earth.
