Montolivo set for surgery

Cape Town - AC Milan skipper Riccardo Montolivo will undergo surgery to repair the fractured shinbone he sustained while on international duty, the club have confirmed.

The 29-year-old suffered the injury during Italy's World Cup warm-up fixture against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday night and will take no part in the showpiece event in Brazil.

"Riccardo Montolivo will undergo surgery at La Madonnina Clinic in Milan today," Milan's statement read.

"Montolivo is in a combative mood. Today he will have the operation and then, without giving up on anything, he will work to return to play."

It is believed that the midfielder will be sidelined for two months as a result.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
