Cape Town - Nigerian Football Federation president Aminu Maigari celebrates
his birthday on Wednesday, and says it would "feel very special" if
Nigeria could mark the day with a win over Argentina.
The Super Eagles are on the verge of qualifying for the World Cup last-16 after drawing against Iran in their Group F opener before seeing off Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 at the weekend.
Those results mean Stephen Keshi's men need only a draw against the Argentines in their final group game to book their place in the first knockout stage in Brazil, but Maigari is daring to dream big, with his eye on all three points.
"My birthday is on the day we are playing Argentina, and I would feel very special if we defeat the Argentines," Maigari said.
"But more than that, a place in the round of 16 at this World Cup would bring joy to the entire NFF delegation and the good people of Nigeria back home.
"We have so many reasons to go all out on Wednesday. The Argentines have always beaten us at the FIFA World Cup, though narrowly each time. We also need to show our true strength as the champions of Africa."
