A cut above the rest

Cape Town - San Antonio hair portraitist, Rob Ferrel, is a Texas barber with a twist.

Rob is known for his brilliant portraits of celebrities which he shaves onto customers' heads using a black and white photograph to ensure he gets the shading just right.

He has been particularly busy in the past few weeks as hundreds of World Cup fans have come running to get their favourite football player shaved onto their heads.

According to Rob, the trickiest part of it all is trying to navigate the roundness of people's heads. "It's like trying to draw on a baseball", he told Time Magazine. “Like a puzzle, I start working on one section, and then I start adding pieces to it.”

The most popular players, however, have been those from the Mexico and USA teams. Apparently Tim Howard had been a popular choice leading up to the USA's game with Belgium yesterday, as well as Mexico player Javier Hernandez Balcazar.

Rob has been creating hair portraits for eight years now and insists business always gets hectic when there are big sporting events on, especially the NBA.

Ferrel's Messi masterpiece has gone viral.
