Stars dump Leopards out

Johannesburg - Platinum Stars booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup, courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Black Leopards at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening.

Tintswalo Tshabalala broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, before Henrico Botes added a second on the hour mark.

Stars advanced into the round of 16 with a 1-0 victory over National First Division side Dynamos, while Leopards were made to fight for their 5-4 victory over Cape Town Stars a fortnight ago.

Stars have impressed in the Premiership this season, sitting third behind Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, and will hope to consolidate their good form with a successful Cup run.

Leopards, meanwhile, find themselves at the other end of the league table - third-bottom - and will now focus on avoiding the danger zone for the rest of the season, in a bid to remain in the country's top-tier.
