Stars back Alves banana bite

Barcelona - Soccer stars have taken to Twitter and Instagram to show support for Barcelona's Dani Alves eating a banana thrown by racist fans.

Alves has often been targeted with monkey chants and banana-hurling fans and has called fighting racism: "a lost war."

Dani Alves after the match went on to thank the person for throwing the banana after he claimed it inspired him to go on to put on a match-winning performance:

"I don't know who threw the banana but I want to thank him. It gave me the energy to put two more crosses in for our goals," Alves said.

Barcelona defender Dani Alves has received support from players including Sergio Aguero, David Luiz, Oscar, Willian, Nacer Chadli, Moussa Dembele, Hulk and Neymar following his reaction to a banana being thrown in his direction by a Villarreal supporter during a La Liga game.

Chelsea players Oscar, David Luiz and Willian posted a short video on Luiz's Instagram account, with the players eating banana's and saying: "We are all monkeys."

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero posted a message of himself eating a banana on Twitter along with the following message:

"No to racism. We are all equal."
