Tembo welcomes MTN8 final selection headache

Cape Town - SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo is pleased to have a large group of players currently performing at optimum levels for Saturday's MTN8 final against Cape Town City.

The Tshwane club have made a fine start to the news season - apart from making the top eight cup final, they have also been in great form in the league, a 4-0 win on Sunday over Black Leopards leaving Matsatsantsa just two points off the summit.

Striker Evans Rusike has set the pace with four league goals and one in the cup, while the likes of Bradley Grobler and James Keene have also been amongst the goals, with Fagrie Lakay another in-form forward.

"To be honest I want to have a [selection] headache like this because a lot of players have been raising their hand, not just for the final, but for the other games as well," Tembo was quoted saying by the Sowetan.

"I have a competitive squad which pushes each other at training. No matter who plays they give each other support. We still have a few days to think and analyse to see who will be suited for the game."

Tembo took over as caretaker coach at SuperSport midway through last season and having been given the job full-time ahead of the current campaign, is hoping to pay back the club's faith in him with silverware this weekend.

"What is important is the club as it comes first. I can only thank the board, led by the chairman Khulu Sibiya and the CEO Stan Matthews, for giving me the opportunity," said the former SuperSport player.

"It is not easy but for them to show confidence in me to take responsibility of such a big club is very humbling. I can only reward them by going to win the final."
