Tau impresses as Club Brugge win in UCL qualifier

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau impressed as he played the full 90 minutes as Belgium side Club Brugge defeated Dynamo Kiev in the first-leg of a Champions League qualifier, at the Jan Breydelstadion on Tuesday.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker was lively in the opening stages of the encounter and nearly created an early chance for the home side in the 6th minute.

Tau who was making his second appearance for Club Brugge seemed full of confidence after scoring in a 6-0 win over Sint-Truiden in a Jupiler Pro League match last Friday.

Attacking midfielder Hans Vanaken gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot in the 37th minute which proved to be the only goal of the game.

"I am satisfied with a 1-0 win," head coach Philippe Clement said after the final whistle. "This is a good European result."

The game was also significant as former Liverpool goalkeeper and Champions League winner Simon Mignolet made his debut for the Blauw-Zwart.

The return leg will take place on Tuesday, August 13, at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in the Ukraine.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
