Sundowns and ASEC share dull draw

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns and ASEC Mimosas settled for a 0-0 draw in their CAF Champions League Group A encounter on Tuesday night in Ivory Coast.

The visitors to West Africa came close in the 23rd minute as Thapelo Morena fired wide following a good pass from the always incisive Themba Zwane.

ASEC did have their moments in what was a sluggish encounter but didn't really create any clear openings where it counted.

The game was played at a sleepy pace as it appeared both teams were content to at least take a point.

New signing Emiliano Tade came on in the second stanza for the unusually ineffective Gaston Sirino.

In the 55th minute Zwane went close as he failed to convert a good chance following a promising move.

Phakamani Mahlambi was introduced into the game for Morena, as coach Pitso Mosimane attempted to find a winning goal.

With that said, it was a strangely dull affair as both outfits picked up a point in West Africa.

Downs are next in action on Wednesday next week when they face Polokwane City at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, with a chance to overtake Bidvest Wits at the top of the Absa Premiership standings.
