Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has had some strong words for football analysts who nominate other players ahead of Percy Tau for the Absa Premiership Player of the Year award.
"You can't compare lower grade mathematics to someone that is doing it at a higher level," Mosimane told journalists when speaking on comparing other players to Tau.
The 53-year-old hit out at football analysts who were campaigning for Maritzburg United pair, Fadlu Davids and the impressive Siphesihle Ndlovu to scoop the Coach and Player of the Year awards.
"I don’t know how you look at it because I was listening to SuperSport 4 two weeks in a row and people are campaigning for who is the coach of the year and people are campaigning for player of the year.
"It’s unbelievable, people have agendas, it’s not funny. But it’s the same culprits.
"For me you can’t compare Percy Tau with anybody, give it to him. He plays in the Champions League and he’s scoring. He is scoring for Bafana Bafana, he is scoring in the league, he is scoring in the Nedbank Cup.
"Who do you want to compare him to? No, let’s be honest, who do you want to compare him to? Okay you can have nominees, which is good, but give it to Percy.
"He is doing it week in, week out. You can’t compare him to well rested teams. You can’t compare mathematics at lower grade and compare to someone who is doing higher grade. No, you can’t."
Mosimane then had a dig at both Cape Town City coach, Benni McCarthy and former SuperSport United mentor Eric Tinkler in complimenting the work of Muhsin Ertugral.
"Cape Town City are a team that was well built by Muhsin. Eric Tinkler inherited the team and didn’t do much. It’s the same with Benni McCarthy, he inherited the team and didn’t touch much."
Masandawana face City in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday.
Kick-off is at 15:00.
