Parker targets trophy before Komphela exit

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs forward Bernard Parker says he hopes the club can win a trophy before head coach Steve Komphela's time at the club comes to an end.

The Glamour Boys are seemingly out of the Premiership title race but are still in with a shout of winning the Nedbank Cup after reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Nonetheless, Parker takes the view that winning silverware is imperative in what could be the final months of Komphela's tenure at Naturena. The 50-year-old's contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

Since joining the club in 2015, Amakhosi have failed to win any silverware under the former Bafana Bafana star and this is a situation that Parker is hopeful of changing.

Since signing for Chiefs in 2011, the 31-year-old has won two league titles, an MTN8 trophy as well as a Nedbank Cup crown all under former boss Stuart Baxter.

"We're well aware that this is the third year, and the last couple of months for our coach," he said.

"Since he's been here he hasn't gotten anything. This is our chance to get a trophy for the club, firstly, and for the coach and his career as well.

"Teams that don’t have as much quality as what we have, have won cups. I’m talking about in this three-year period of time.

"They've won a cup here and there so we definitely owe the club some silverware, and ourselves as well, because we're also here to win trophies."
