Ngoma not discouraged by CCL snub by Sundowns

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns winger Aubrey Ngoma says he is not disheartened by failing to make the side's CAF Champions League squad.

Ngoma has struggled for playing time in 2018/19 and has made just three appearances in all competitions for the Brazilians.

The forward has so far been unable to replicate the kind of form he produced for Cape Town City in 2016/17, where he bagged 16 assists and was named ABSA Premiership Midfielder of the Season.

In addition, the player was Telkom Knockout Player of the Season that year. As such, with so much competition for places at Chloorkop, it appears the 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order.

He said of his exclusion from the CCL squad: "Obviously as a player you want to compete on the highest [level of] competition in Africa in football.

"It was unfortunate that I was not registered, [but I'm] not [feeling] hard done by about it. I need to keep my mind positive and in a good space when the domestic competitions come. I'm ready to play.

"At this point in time I'm not registered with the club. We are still in three competitions. The CAF Champions League, we still have the Nedbank Cup to play for and we are competing to win the league.

"So, we are going to be playing a lot of games in a short space of time and definitely the technical team is going to need a lot of players.

"If you are not registered in the CAF, you have to make sure you are ready to compete in the domestic competitions. So, the players that are not registered know that we always have to stay focused on domestic football because there we are registered and eligible to play."
