Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League has decided that the National First Division (NFD) trophy and medals will be kept at a neutral location in the Western Cape as the NFD championship race goes to the final day of the competition this weekend.

Two clubs - Stellenbosch FC and Royal Eagles - will be competing for the top prize on Sunday as the NFD journey enters the final thrilling lap.

The trophy will be kept at a place that will make it easy for it to reach either of the two stadiums at full-time.

Stellenbosch FC will play Maccabi FC at Idas Valley Sports Grounds while Royal Eagles travel to Cape Town to face relegation-threatened Ubuntu Cape Town at Athlone.

Stellenbosch are leading the NFD log standings with 55 points from 29 matches – two points clear of closest and only rivals, Royal Eagles who are on 53 points from the same number of games.

The goal difference (+24 for Stellenbosch FC and +21 for Royal Eagles) means that a draw might not be enough for Stellenbosch to ensure a safe return to the Absa Premiership but three points will see them declared as champions.

For Royal Eagles, this is the closest they have come to challenging for the NFD championship and they will be primed for the challenge. However, they face Ubuntu Cape Town – a side that is desperate for three points to give them hope of securing yet another season in the NFD.

Ubuntu Cape Town’s survival is no longer in their own hands: they need Jomo Cosmos, Real Kings and Cape Umoya to drop points this coming weekend.

Should they lose, they will be automatically relegated to the ABC Motsepe League joining Witbank Spurs.

All the three: Jomo Cosmos, Real Kings and Cape Umoya are still in danger of relegation.
