NFD renamed GladAfrica Championship with huge cash boost to boot

Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced on Thursday the renaming of the NFD to the GladAfrica Championship with prize money rising to R3 million.

PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza announced GladAfrica as the league's new flagship sponsor in a five-year partnership with the winners of the league receiving R3 million - an increase from R300 000 previously.

The new payment structure will see the runners-up receive R1.5 million with the third-placed team receiving R1 million.

"This momentous announcement is not only significant today but also has a bearing on the future," Khoza said.

"GladAfrica is joining a club and we commend the leadership of the company for being visionaries for having the foresight to understand the development of football in the country."
