New-look Chippa take aim at Sundowns

Cape Town - Chippa United will look to continue their improving fortunes when they face powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns in a Nedbank Cup Round of 32 tie in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Chippa come into the contest having picked up their first win under new coach Clinton Larsen during a 2-0 Premiership victory over fellow strugglers Maritzburg United last Saturday.

The Chilli Boys have also made a raft of changes in January with a number of high-profile players released, while William Twala, Bangaly Keita, Donashano Malama and Gladwin Shitolo have all been signed.

For Sundowns, the momentum continues as the club last lost domestically on 3 November last year in the Telkom Knockout.

The Brazilians are in third place in the Premiership standings and trail leaders Wits by three points, though coach Pitso Mosimane's men do have the advantage of three matches in hand.

Nonetheless, Downs are yet to win a trophy in 2018/19 after their exits from the MTN8 as well as the TKO.

As such, experienced goalkeeper Denis Onyango believes Saturday's clash is a must-win.

He told Goal: "At Sundowns we believe that we must lift one or two trophies by the end of the season and we will start with winning our Nedbank Cup match this weekend."

In team news for the away outfit, Jeremy Brockie may miss out as speculation over his future at the 2016 African champions intensifies.

Reports suggest he is surplus to requirements in Pretoria.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
