Cape Town - Dan Malesela has announced his resignation as head coach of Nedbank Cup holders TS Galaxy, the club confirmed on Friday.
The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns player guided the first division outfit to a shock victory in the Nedbank Cup final last season when they beat Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs 1-0.
The team, however, suffered a 3-0 defeat to Chippa United in the first game of their Cup defence on Wednesday and are sitting a lowly 12th in the first division standings this season.
TS Galaxy said in a statement: "Our Head Coach, Dan Malesela, has decided to stand down in his role as head coach with immediate effect following a string of poor results which has seen the club lie 12th in the NFD league table and also exit the Nedbank Cup."
Galaxy president, Tim Sukazi, thanked Malesela for his contribution to the club, saying the former Chippa United mentor will always have a place in the club's history as he guided them to their first ever trophy.
Sukazi said: "TS Galaxy FC would like to thank Coach Dan Malesela for his immense contribution to our Club.
"We have had a wonderful journey together and we will always appreciate his contribution.
"He will always be in the history books of our Club and we wish him well for the future."
The club have confirmed that former Sundowns defender Musi Ajao has been appointed interim coach and he will be assisted by Essau Mtsweni.
