Cape Town - Augustine Mulenga has claimed that as a "big club", Orlando Pirates deserve to be playing CAF Champions League football.
Mulenga scored a brace against Bidvest Wits on Wednesday to help secure the Buccaneers' place in the competition. He told the media: “What I can say is that Pirates is a big club, and a big club deserves to compete in the big competition.
“It’s good for us that we’ve confirmed that we’re going to be in the Champions League, and it’s a good feeling for us as players. We just have to continue working hard so that we can compete against the big clubs in Africa.”
Mulenga's sentiments bear resemblance to those of his boss, Milutin Sredojevic, who, according to SowetanLIVE, said: “This jersey‚ this badge‚ this team‚ these millions of supporters‚ our club‚ and a club of this magnitude‚ deserve to be here.
“It is something that is normal for us. It was an abnormal season last year.”
Pirates will look to keep their slim Premiership title hopes alive when they face Cape Town City at 15:00 today.
