Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso says the club intend on doing well in 2018/19's MTN8 competition as it is a chance to start the season on the front foot.
There appears to be a positive mood at Naturena since the high-profile arrival of Khama Billiat from Mamelodi Sundowns, and hopes are high that much success can be achieved under new coach Giovanni Solinas.
The Italian was recently appointed to take charge of the reins from interim boss Patrick Mabedi, and Cardoso takes the view that a good start in the MTN8 could set Chiefs up for a successful campaign.
"That's the first target that we have to hit. It's the first trophy of the season and it's a trophy that we need to take seriously,” he said as quoted by KickOff website.
"In August we have about seven or eight games. It's a lot of games and it will be a big month for all the teams.
"Hopefully we can come away with as many victories as we can, especially with the MTN8. That's going to be the first task for us and then we will take it from there and just move on with other tournaments.
Amakhosi are set to take on Free State Stars in the quarter-finals of the tournament in August with the Premiership yet to confirm exact dates, times and venues.
