Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has
admitted he made a mistake by not playing a full-strength side when they faced
Petro Atletico in the CAF Champions League last week.
Needing a victory to secure first place in their group, the
Brazilians made several changes their side and needed a late equaliser to secure
a 2-2 draw.
Mosimane's side is currently two points clear of Wydad
Casablanca, their opponents in Pretoria on Saturday, meaning they need to avoid
defeat to secure top spot in the group.
"The plan is to finish on top of the group and at this
point, we are top, but we still might not qualify as the group winners until
match-day six happens," Mosimane was quoted as saying by Phakaaathi.
"Unfortunately, we still have to play for results, and I
thought we won't play for results against Wydad," Mosimane was quoted as saying
The reigning Absa Premiership champions are hoping to win a
second Champions League title after the trophy in 2016.
They face a familiar foe in Wydad, who beat them in the
semi-final of last year's competition.
"Every coach wants to win the tournament and every coach
believes that they can win any match,” added Mosimane.
"Yes, it not easy, there are teams that are very strong in
this competition and realistically it is not easy to win this tournament, but
you need to go as far as you can. Last year we went to the semi-finals to we
need to try."
In recent years Sundowns have beaten Wydad in Pretoria
Kick-off is at 15:00.
