Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his side deserved their 5-0 victory over Al Ahly in a CAF Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

It was the record biggest defeat Al Ahly have endured in African club competitions and the first time Sundowns have defeated the Egyptian outfit in their history.

Themba Zwane, Wayne Arendse, Ricardo Nascimento, Gaston Sirino and Phakamani Mahlambi got themselves on the score-sheet with record eight-time winners Al Ahly having it all to do in the return fixture next weekend in Cairo.

Speaking after the game, a gushing Mosimane said the result was no mere fluke, stating that his side were rewarded for doing some thorough homework on the 'team of the century'.

"We watched eight games of Al Ahly," Mosimane was quoted as saying by PowerFM.

"The last two were of Pyramids and Zamalek. We got the patterns, how they play. We did our homework. It wasn't luck. We worked for it. We knew all their danger areas, all their danger men," he added.

Al Ahly boss Martin Lasarte, who formerly coached Real Sociedad and comes with a fine pedigree, is under serious pressure and was quick to apologise to the Al Ahly faithful in the aftermath of the humiliating defeat.

"No comment, it is a bad night for us. We apologise to our fans, we really feel ashamed. Now, we should talk a little bit and do more and more," Lasarte said.
