Mayambela was hauled off shortly before half-time of Saturday's 1-0 Telkom Knockout defeat after angrily gesturing towards Tinkler, who was barking orders at him from the sideline. Daine Klate was brought on to replace him.
The 31-year-old responded by heading straight down the tunnel, although he returned to the bench in the second half.
When asked about the incident after the match, Tinkler told SuperSport: "That's an internal matter; we'll deal with that."
Meanwhile, Mayambela has taken to Twitter to apologise, writing on Saturday night: "I would like to apologize to everyone for the incident that happened in tonight's game. I shouldn't have reacted the way I did, it doesn't matter how frustrating the situation was. I hope you will receive my humble apology well."
The only goal of the game came courtesy of Vincent Pule in the 60th minute and Pirates therefore marched on to the quarter-finals.
