Links issues warning to SuperSport ahead of MTN8 final

Cape Town - Cape Town City winger Gift Links is determined to make a big impact on the MTN8 final against SuperSport United.

Links arrived at City from Egyptian side Pyramids FC ahead of the current season, signing a five year deal in what was reportedly a big money transfer.

His game-time has been limited so far for City, but the former Platinum Stars midfielder is still only 19-years old and will surely become an increasingly influential member of his team in months and years ahead.

Right now, Links is fired up for the final against SuperSport in Durban on Saturday night and hopes to make it a memorable night for himself and his team.

"Anyone who will be playing on my side [of the pitch], I think I will give him a tough time. It's going to be one of his toughest challenges because I know what I can do," he was quoted saying by the Sowetan.

"I don't know what the one who's going to play on my side can do, but most of the defenders, because my body is so small, think it's going to be easy. It's going to be a challenge that side.

"Every time I come on as a substitute, the coach [Benni McCarthy] tells me, 'Boy, don't be scared, just play your own game'.

"He told me he would introduce me little by little, so now I'm looking forward to starting more games.

"If I get that chance, I will make sure that I cement my place in the team," Links added.

Links is most likely to come up against SuperSport right-back Grant Kekana.

The teenaged winger is determined to go home with a winners' medal after having missed out on a final during his time in Egypt, while City as a whole will be out for revenge against the team they lost to in last season's final.

"It's my first final. Unfortunately, three months back we lost in the semi-final [with] my previous team [Pyramids], so I'm looking forward to it," Links said.

"I'm sure the players won't let SuperSport beat us twice. We have to return home with this one. Yeah, that's all we want. We have to put in 150%."

Kick-off is at 19:00.
