Ernst: Chiefs' history not a factor ahead of final

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says the club's rich history of success does not enter into his mind after the club reached the final of the Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs came from behind to beat Chippa United 4-2 as they appear to be on the verge of winning their first trophy since 2015.

However, underdogs TS Galaxy will no doubt offer a stiff test after they surprised Golden Arrows in the other semi-final of the competition.

Nonetheless, Middendorp says he doesn't feel the pressure and is instead looking to the side's next game against Arrows on Tuesday evening.

He told reporters: "We're here, we definitely have reached the final, and football is not really a complex game of playing in the past or with heroes, or playing from history.

"That's always what we pump into our own muscle memory each and every day. What happened in the past, with former coaches or runs in a season and achieving something or whatever, it's not what's important for us.

"What's important for us is now to prepare for the next game against Golden Arrows so that we get a better position in the league, and I don't really have time to think about what was in the last years, it's not my duty or what I get paid for.

"I'm looking into what happened [on Saturday] and then forward to what we still have to do."

Tuesday's Absa Premiership action gets underway at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Meanwhile, the cup final is set for Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 18.
