Dolly, Khune lead SA in CAF awards

Cape Town - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a 30-man list nominated for the 2016 African Player of the Year and their 25-man nominees for the 2016 African Player of the Year - Based in Africa, award.

Three South Africans - Hlompho Kekana, Keagan Dolly and Itumeleng Khune - have been nominated in the ‘Based in Africa’ player of the year award.

Meanwhile, three Mamelodi Sundowns players - Dennis Onyango, Khama Billiat and Dolly - were nominated for the African Player of the Year award, along with Kaizer Chiefs 'keeper Khune in the category.

Other international African players recognised include Leicester City's Riyaad Mahrez, John Obi Mikel from Chelsea, Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o, and Ghanaian Andrew Ayew.

According to the official CAF website, the two main awards selection process involved four components of the Electoral College: members of the CAF media committee, members of the CAF technical and development committee, panel of 20 experts (journalists, TV consultants), member associations.

The CAF 2016 Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria.
