Cape Town - SuperSport United defender Clayton Daniels has urged Gaston Sirino to put aside the "small things" after being involved in another clash with the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder.

Sirino made a dangerous ankle-high tackle on Daniels in Sundowns' 1-0 victory over SuperSport in their Nedbank Cup encounter on Saturday but was only shown a yellow card.

Sirino is already waiting for his punishment after being charged by the PSL after another incident with Daniels that happened earlier in the season.

In quotes posted in the Sowetan after Saturday's game, Daniels said: "I don't know what is happening with him but I just wish I can take him for a coffee and we can talk nicely and not behave like that on the field.

"He is a great footballer and is a good player in my eyes. I don't have a problem with him.

"He is doing well for Sundowns, it's just the small things that he must put aside.

"I went to him after the game and I said, 'my boy let's not play like that'.

"I hope that he learned from it because he could have got a red card."

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said after Saturday's match: "We know Gaston has a short fuse ... I spoke to the referee next to me, Victor Gomes (who was fourth official), that we need to protect him but when he clatters into Clayton like that, you can't protect him."
