Cape Town - Cape Town City proved to be too good for SuperSport United as they beat their opponents 2-0 in Saturday night's Nedbank Cup Round-of-32 clash at Cape Town Stadium.
City have been in superb form in 2019 having beaten Free State Stars 5-0 in their previous Premiership encounter.
The opening half-an-hour was largely without real action though in the 36th minute the tie came to life.
The impressive Thato Mokeke proved to be the difference as he headed home from close range in the 36th minute from Ayanda Patosi's assist.
SSU were struggling to create openings as Bradley Grobler looked a frustrated figure in attack.
With that said, Thamsanqa Mkhize made it 2-0 before the break from an assist credited to veteran Teko Modise, though Patosi was once again in the thick of the action.
On the hour mark Reneilwe Letsholonyane made way for Kagiso Malinga as the visitors tried to find a way back into the contest.
Grobler did look threatening at times along with Aubrey Modiba but could not get beyond goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh.
The final moments offered little difference as Benni McCarthy's men advanced to the last-16 of the competition.
