Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung says the club's long term dream is to win the CAF Champions League.
Chiefs have only ever won once in the continent when they secured the now defunct African Cup Winners' Cup in 2001 under then coach Muhsin Ertugral.
However, since then they have not been competitive and also withdrew from the CAF Confederations Cup leading to a three-year ban in 2005.
The Glamour Boys have not emulated the success of fierce rivals Orlando Pirates, who won the CCL in 1996.
In addition, Sundowns' success in winning the 2016 edition of Africa's most prestigious cup competition has also seemingly thrown shade in the direction of Amakhosi.
Motaung told reporters: "The Champions League has always been our ambition and it will always be.
"This season we have been knocked out of the Confederation Cup but sometimes it works in your favour.
"Definitely, going to the Champions League remains one of our ambitions and that is why when we beef up the squad now and at the end of the season we will do so looking at those challenges that lie ahead of us."
Chiefs last won a trophy in 2015 when they were crowned Premiership champions during the reign of Stuart Baxter.
