Cape Town Stadium to host Nedbank Cup final

Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that the City of Cape Town will host the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, May 19.

On Thursday night, the PSL, together with sponsors Nedbank, confirmed that the Cape Town Stadium will be the battle ground for the title decider.

Cape Town Stadium is one of the stadiums built for the 2010 Soccer World Cup and the structure of the stadium provides an epic experience for spectators.

Having been designed with a roof that resembles a bicycle wheel, the stadium is flanked by Table Mountain, Robben Island as well as the Atlantic Ocean, giving it a rather dramatic setting.

The announcement of the Nedbank Cup final venue marks the official countdown to the much-anticipated final.

"Cape Town football supporters have been asking for an opportunity to watch a cup final in their backyard for some time now and we are excited to bring a major cup final to Cape Town Stadium," the PSL acting Chief Executive, Mato Madlala said.

"This is in line with the commitment made by the League to utilise the stadiums build for the 2010 World Cup.

"This is not just an opportunity to watch a football match but a chance for fans to be part of an experience."

The host city was announced at the quarter-final draw for the competition.

The pick of the quarter-final clashes sees Cape Town City at home to Mamelodi Sundowns, while the only team not in the Absa Premiership, Ubuntu Cape Town, will welcome Free State Stars.

Dates and venues for the quarter-final fixtures are still to be confirmed.
