Cape Town - Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has admitted that he is hungry to win his first trophy as a coach after enjoying an illustrious career as a player.

McCarthy was speaking ahead of his side's MTN8 semi-final with Mamelodi Sundowns at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

The Bafana Bafana all-time record goal scorer stated that it is important for the Citizens to make use of the home ground advantage as the Brazilians will be hard to beat in the return match.

The City coach had a long and successful career as a player playing for the likes of Ajax Amsterdam, Celta Vigo, Porto, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United.

He was part of the Jose Mourinho's Porto side that won the Uefa Champions League in the 2003/04 season and also won a number of big trophies with Orlando Pirates before retiring.

McCarthy told SABC: "This season I'm going to be a bit more determined. I want to get my hands on my first silverware.

"Just to get that feeling when you are in a managerial role. I want to put the game to bed at home because Sundowns with their supporters at Loftus are a different animal."
