Johannesburg - Baroka FC defeated ABC Motsepe side Steenberg United 2-0 on Saturday to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup.
Premiership side Baroka were too good for Steenberg as Mudzunga Sidumo opened the scoring just before half-time, ahead of a second goal from Tebogo Sodi late in the tie.
Gift Motupa was first to fire a shot away for the Premiership side that was well off the mark.
Hassan Banda then forced Steenberg to clear off their own goal-line after his ball into the box from the right.
Motupa was called up for offsides despite replays showing the player was level as he finished past Abdurghman White.
And while Baroka were clearly on top, they were struggling to break down their opponents.
Lebogang Mabotja should have done better with a header he placed wide, and after Ayanda Dlamini made a good save, Baroka broke forward with pace, resulting in a tap-in from Rhulani Sidumo.
Mpho then Kgoetyane connected well to a Sidumo cross, but saw his effort cleared off the Steenberg goalline, as Sidumo smashed a 73rd minute against the Steenberg crossbar.
The visitors also went close with an effort that rattled the woodwork, with Robyn Rode unable to finish on the follow-up.
But the result was sealed after Sodi after came off the bench to score at the far post from Motupa's delivery.
The draw for the quarter-finals takes place on Thursday.
