Banyana lose AWCON final in penalty shootout

Cape Town - Banyana Banyana had to settle for a silver medal at the Africa Women's Cup of Nations after losing to Nigeria on penalties in the final on Saturday.

The game at Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana ended 0-0 after extra time, before Nigeria won the penalty shootout 4-3.

Linda Mothlalo and Lebohang Ramalepe missed their penalties but South Africa can hold their heads high.

Nigeria, who had missed a penalty in regulation time, claimed their 11th Africa Women's Cup of Nations.
