Banyana, Kgatlana up for CAF Awards

Cape Town - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the final list of nominees for the 2017 CAF Awards.

South Africa forward Thembi Kgatlana and the women's national side, Banyana Banyana are the only South African representatives in their respective categories.

Banyana are nominated alongside Ghana U20 and Nigeria U20 for the Women's National Team of the Year award.

Meanwgile, Kgatlana is up for the Women's Player of the Year award with Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala and Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene of Cameroon.

In September this year, Banyana lifted up the COSAFA Women's Championship in Zimbabwe and secured the title for the record fourth time.

According to SAFA.net website, Kgatlana was voted Player of the Tournament at the same competition and has won several individual awards this year, including, Player of the Year at the SAFA Cape Town Awards and Sports Person of the Year at the University of Western Cape.

The winners will be decided by votes from the members of the CAF Technical & Development Committee, CAF Media Experts Panel and Independent Media and TV Consultants.

The Awards Gala will take place on Thursday, January 4 2018 in Accra, Ghana.
