Arsenal development coach hold SA camp to teach Gunners philosophy

Cape Town - Arsenal Football Development coach Simon McManus says a three-day camp held in Cape Town for local coaches is designed to teach them the Gunners philosophy.

McManus is in the Mother City on behalf of SportPesa where he and his staff are helping to mentor local coaches which includes the likes of former Bafana Bafana stars Doctor Khumalo, David Nyathi and George Dearnaley.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma website, McManus said: "Day one with the Arsenal SportPesa Clinic, (Monday) morning we covered a theory session which gave the coaches an insight in to how we perceive the role of a coach at Arsenal.

"Then also discussed the different types of practices we use and the benefits of isolated practices or integrated practices and then focused on the holistic player we try to develop at Arsenal.

"We feel that we've got a responsibility to develop the wider person as well as the footballer, so we just went through the different attributes that we are looking to build within the players.

“This afternoon we demonstrate that to the coaches practically, taking them through three to four practises that we use at Arsenal, again just showing an integrated approach to develop more well-rounded players.

"The coaches seem really engaged so far so it has been a really good start."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
