Tovey named SAFA technical director

Cape Town - SAFA have named Bafana Bafana’s 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning captain, Neil Tovey, as their new Technical Director.

The 53-year-old former Amazulu and Kaizer Chiefs star will now oversee all the teams in the national set-up.

The position has been vacant for a number of years, however Fran Hilton-Smith filled the role on an interim basis.

Tovey, who recently recovered from a heart attack, is also an experienced coach, having led teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Amazulu and Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The announcement was made via social media on Saturday, and a full statement is yet to be released.
