Stars ecstatic to reach final

Cape Town - After defeating Wits in both two-legged semi-final encounters, Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese revealed his delight at reaching the MTN8 final in his maiden season in charge.

Dikwena gave the Clever Boys a 6-3 aggregate thumping to book their place in the final against two-time champions, Orlando Pirates.

“I would like to thank the technical staff, for ensuring that we had fit players on the ground tonight,” Freese told the club’s official website after Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Wits.

“I’m happy that we could get to the final, I’m happy for the club, for the players, for everybody involved with the club.

“It means a lot for the club and for the province of the North West, for a club and the supporters from a small town to get into the final.”

It will be Stars’ first appearance in the final of the “Wafa-Wafa” tournament and the Tycoons of the North West Province will be hoping to add a second silverware to their trophy cabinet.

Stars last tasted Cup success under Owen da Gama’s tenure back in 2006 when they defeated Ajax Cape Town in the Telkom Knockout.

Dikwena will battle for an R8m cash price against Roger de Sa’s charges at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban on Saturday night.

Kick-off is at 20:15.
