Cape Town - Swedish club Djurgårdens IF have granted midfielder Mark Mayambela permission to fly back to South Africa and attend the funeral of his former Orlando Pirates teammate, Senzo Meyiwa, on Saturday.
The Bafana Bafana captain and goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, was shot and killed at the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, Vosloorus on Sunday night.
The duo played an instrumental role in guiding the Buccaneers to two consecutive trebles in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons.
The "Professor" confirmed to Sport24 on Thursday that he will arrive in the country on Friday to pay his final respect to the Bafana Bafana captain.
"I will be back for to attend the funeral on Saturday," said Mayambela.
"The club gave me a permission to fly back and they didn’t have any problem at all.
"I will arrive on Friday."
Meanwhile, Meyiwa’s national teammate, Andile Jali, will also attend the funeral after his Belgian club, KV Oostende, gave him the green light to be part of the send-off.
The funeral service will commence at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban before proceeding to the cemetery at Umlazi.
The service is set to commence at 08:00.
