Johannesburg - The South African Football Association (SAFA) has sent a stern warning to the PSL clubs which refuse to release their players for international duty.
On Monday coach Pitso Mosimane was forced to reshuffle his traveling squad bound for Equatorial Guinea for an international friendly after Orlando Pirates, Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns refused to release their players.
SAFA vice president, Mwelo Nonkonyane, told the Siya crew that as the football mother-body, they should do something to stop teams compromising national pride. He acknowledges that the game falls on a non-FIFA date, but as South Africans they should support their national team.
"We are working on a policy that will help us work with clubs as far as releasing players is concerned. As an organisation we have to flex our muscles and make sure that the national pride is not compromised by owners of clubs.
“It is about time that we use the rules that are there and make sure the teams adhere to those rules. They have to face the music if they don't follow the rules," Nonkonyane said.
