SAFA boss suspended

2012-12-17 11:54

Johannesburg - The president of South Africa's football association (SAFA) and four other leading officials have been suspended in the wake of a FIFA report into a match-fixing scandal, the country's soccer authority said on Monday.

Kirsten Nematandani and a quartet of SAFA administrators, including new chief executive officer Dennis Mumble, have been relieved of duty for their role in the fixing of four friendlies South Africa played ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

A FIFA investigation into the activity of convicted Singaporean match-fixer Wilson Perumal and his Football 4U organisation highlighted the involvement of the five South African officials, a press briefing was told.

The results of matches against Thailand, Bulgaria, Colombia and Guatemala in the weeks leading up the 2010 World Cup were found to have been pre-arranged to benefit an Asian betting syndicate.

Wow! during elections they were the one fighting left and right to remove Dr I Khoza from that post, knowing that they have something special to do once they ocupy it,now the scandal is revealed and they are suspended, let Khoza be put back to SAFA and all those who are found to be involved in that crime once found guilty be removed from SAFA total because they are spoiling our country.

  • keith.ngobeni - 2012-12-17 13:02

The moment this nematandani venda chap was given the red light to lead SAFA, I knew he was up to something not good. SAFA should follow Zambia by appointing people who played professional football to run it's organisation, for example the likes of Lucas radebe, mark fish,Doc khumalo, john moeti, helman mkhelele,Phil masinga etc, should be at the helm of our national team not those crooks who are currently running our football, since Zambia put kalusha as their head of football things are going smooth for its national soccer team.

      Robert Simon - 2012-12-17 13:24

How on Earth does being Venda has to do with this. Don't come with your attitude towards any culture or so, you Shangaan holigan.

      keith.ngobeni - 2012-12-17 16:00

Robert, venda people like you are really good at body parts trafficking, you should tell your friend Kirsten to try that trade and you too can join him. Becaz running a professional football organization isn't for you guys, it needs people with brains.

      mthetheleli.ntshobololo.1 - 2012-12-17 19:31

Probe everybody including players, who was the captain at the time???????

      vincent.s.phillips - 2012-12-31 03:26

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING BAVENDA, ISIZULU OR ISIXHOSA BUT EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE MORALITY OF A NATION. THE APARTHEID REGIME PERFECTED IT, THE RULING PARTY EXPOSED IT BY BEING TO TRANSPARENT IN THEIR DESPERATE BID TO DEMONSTRATE TO WESTERN IMPERIALIST POWERS WHOSE BIDDING THEY DO ANYWAY AND THE CHICKENS HAVE SIMPLY COME HOME TO ROOST. ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ZUMA'S LUCK RUNS OUT AND WHAT HE DID BACK THEN IN 2007 (POLOKWANE) WILL SURELY COME BACK TO HAUNT HIM.

      vincent.s.phillips - 2012-12-31 03:29

YOUR REFERENCE TO "THIS NEMATANDI VENDA CHAP" IS BOTH INFANTILE (HOPE YOU KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORD) AND RACIST. WHAT MAKES YOU, NGOBENI, BETTER, SUPERIOR OR MORE KNOWLEAGABLE WHEN BLACKS HAVE BEEN AT THE HELM OF SOCCER FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND NOT ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO EMULATE BARKER! INSTEAD WE HAVE AS A NATION SLIPPED EVEN FURTHER IN THE FIFA RANKINGS! THAT IS THE TRUTH NGOBENI, ZULU BOY!

  • beertjie.peertjie - 2012-12-17 13:05

  • Andrew McMurray - 2012-12-17 13:12

No doubt he is suspended with full pay, pending a disciplinary hearing.....which will take 18 months to be finalised. It's a joke, can't these idiots just 'fall on their own swords'?.....no, because they miss out on 'the gravy train'.

      roy.wadhams.1 - 2012-12-17 13:28

Well said.We have all these crooks in government, sport and all walks of life in SA stealing etc and they get away with it.

      vincent.s.phillips - 2012-12-31 03:21

LET YOUR RACIST MINDSET NOT CLOUD THE BIGGER PICTURE, IT IS CALLED DUE PROCESS AND PRECISELY BECAUSE OF THAT THEY ARE ENTITLED TO THE SAME CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AND PROTECTION J ARTHUR BROWN IS AND HAS MANIPULATED TO HIS DISTINCT ADVANTAGE. WHEN WHITES STEAL, THEY DO SO IN HORRENDOUSLY OBSCENE FASHION AS BROWN HAS SO APTLY DEMONSTRATED!

  • roy.wadhams.1 - 2012-12-17 13:25

Like the cricket scandal with Majola,we now have a similar one with SAFA. Will he also do a "Majola stunt" so that he can keep his position?

  • Kwanele Mzwanele Masoka - 2012-12-17 13:25

Its so embarassing to be a South African rightnow.why fix those silly games anywhere!!!!!!!

  • morrisn2 - 2012-12-17 13:36

Poor Kirsten, this has been long coming! The man was supposed 2 hav been ousted shortly after 2010 WC, i smell a rat here, he`s a victim of da circustance, remember hw he bcame the pres, this is a score settling frm hierarchy in SAFA! Its my point of view!

How does someone at that level fix the result of a game. There must be a lot more people involved including players.

  • sabzar - 2012-12-17 14:25

    I'm lost for words.

  • faiyazkoor - 2012-12-17 14:44

Conspiracy against Kirsten,he is being framed by other high ranked officials

  • hilton.baartman - 2012-12-17 14:55

This report is misleading. If you read the press release on safa's website you will we that this report presumes them guilty before a comm of inquiry has established the facts. Nemantandani was asked to take special leave to allow for him to defend himself in an inquiry. Don't forget that it was safa under his leadership who launched the FIFA inquiry in thew first place. Don't jump to conclusions yet.

  • paul.korb.9 - 2012-12-17 14:57

SAFA are the most corrupt unorganised organisation you will ever find and worst of all -RACISTS ! RACISTS ! What is happening at grass roots away from the City's - F@#K All ! World Cup legacy's my ASS!

I think that FIFA should investigate their own officials, how can K Nemetandani be guilty,he asked FIFA to investigate the match fixing scandal, who has the handle behind this scandal

  • xolani.nyuswa - 2012-12-17 15:21

Sport and fixing are like a hand and glove, only we the fans are getin' robbed in it

  • lani.jabu.75 - 2012-12-17 15:37

Safa hired and payed a sangoma to help Bafana Bafaktup before and during the world cup and it did not help. Safa then fired Pitso and the sangoma. Pitso and the sangoma went to Fifa and spilled the beans and now the rest of the corrupt heads are rolling.

  • Mandla - 2012-12-17 15:40

I'll comment when ur found guilty or not.

  • christopher.g.rogers.5 - 2012-12-17 16:17

SA I believe are the only african team that has gone backwards!! We have everything we need yet we can't perform, and the fact that not even the bigwigs can do their jobs doesn't help. Our entire soccer industry from top to bottom is pathetic. This is what you get with transformation!!! I hope you are happy with screwing up a once proud soccer nation!! Now we are an embarrassment!!!
