SAFA and Libya agree on deal

Johannesburg - The South African Football Association and the Football Federation of Libya have signed an agreement regarding the hosting of the 2013 and 2017 African Cup of Nations tournaments.

South Africa, awarded hosting rights to the 2017 AFCON, had last week reportedly struck a deal with 2013 tournament hosts Libya to swap their respective tournaments due to political and civil unrest in the North African country.

SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani then dismissed those rumours as "premature", but South African football's governing body have now revealed the proposed deal has been agreed.

The agreement follows the political turmoil in Libya, but is subject to ratification by the Confederation of African Football at its next Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, 28th September in Egypt.

The 2012 AFCON tournament will be hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
