'Ronaldo should join Real'

Madrid - Manchester United's star striker Cristiano Ronaldo should join Spanish giants Real Madrid, fellow Portuguese player Luis Figo said on Saturday.

"Real Madrid is the most important club in the world - the best club in the world. I think Ronaldo has already wrapped up a stage at United," the Inter Milan midfielder told Spanish sports daily Marca.

"He has won everything he can with the English club, which is another great club, but he should have other goals now, other ambitions and Real Madrid would allow him to achieve more importance, more relevancy," he added.

"That is what I have told him. I don't know what he thinks now," the 36-year-old former Real player added.

Learning Spanish

Real tracked Ronaldo all of last summer following his Champions League and English Premiership triumphs and 42 goals across the campaign before United boss Sir Alex Ferguson stepped in and emphatically vetoed his departure.

But Spanish media continue to insist that the 2008 Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Footballer of the Year will join Real at the end of the season. Ronaldo added to the speculation in January when he told Spanish television he was learning Spanish.

The 24-year-old playmaker is under contract with United until 2012.

Figo joined Real in 2000 after five seasons with Barcelona in a controversial move which intensified the great rivalry between the two clubs.

Someone once said you haven't really become a great player utill you've played for Real Madrid. Well said Figo, now that his apprenticeship at United is complete he's ready for the Real bigtime!

Spoken like a true long-suffering Liverfool supporter ''naphy''. The English Premier League is the most widely followed in the world , and if Ronaldo has already won every major accolade with United what more can he win with Real Madrid or are you hoping that he will join them so that he will be playing under Benitez when he joins Real Madrid ? Ruud van Nistlerooy was world famous at United yet he seems to have disappeared off the radar since joining Madrid and likewise Raul is one of the top players in Spain yet is relatively unknown elsewhere .The English league is where it's at !

    1. I'm a Real Madrid fan not Liverfool. 2. The EPL is best marketed league in the world, nothing to do with the actual football. 3. You miss the point, Ronaldo can win everything at Real that he has won at ManU - league, CL, etc - it's not just about that. Like Figo said RM is the most important club in football, it's more to do with the prestige. 4. Ruud was the top goal scorer in his first season at Real. In 2 seasons he's aready scored more than 50 goals for Real. The only reason you haven't heard about him is that he's been put injured for 3 months now and will be for the rest of the season. 5. Correction Raul is not just "one of the top players in Spain" he is a football god. 312 goals and counting for Real. Precious Rooney would have to average at least 20 goals a season for the next 10 years to get close to dude, it's not gonna happen! Lastly: There's so much more to football than what you see on the EPL. All you know is ManU because you are blind to other clubs. If you learnt a little more about football you would know that ManU is a fledgling club compared to others in Europe, Real Madrid would be at the very pinnacle of the bunch!

@NAPHY! if Real Madrid is at the 'Pinnacle" of the(1) bunch why havent they featured in the champions league final?(2) which league has more teams in the last 16? (3) from which league were the 2 finalists last season?(4) if they are so damn good how did they manage to lose at home to a struggling 'Liverfool" team? give me good answers and reasons and then maybe i'll take your point into consideration otherwise shut it!!! oh(5) wat ''REAL BIG TIME'' are you on about? Real Madrid has a history of poaching top class players from england and killing their careers! Wake up boet Ronaldo should stay!!! Fred The Red Devil!!! GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!!

Anonymous User2:29: The CL domination goes in cycles my friend. In the last decade Italian teams have dominated, Spanish teams have dominated, heck there was even a period when German teams Munich & Leverkusen were strong. English teams are enjoying their period of dominence but it will continue to go in cycles. u have a short memory, the gap between ManU's only 2 CL titles is 10 years. Real last won it in 2002 and btw Real has 9 of those things. As to why Real lost to Liverpool............well it might have something to do with this thing called FOOTBALL!

Will the ManU idiots get their heads out of their A** long enough to smell the coffee????? Football is not made up of ManU and their prima donna thoughts of being the best in the world. By the way, win all you want, Liverpool is still the most prestigious and famous english club.
