Ronaldo, Mou to skip FIFA gala

Madrid - Real Madrid says FIFA player of the year candidate Cristiano Ronaldo and coach Jose Mourinho will skip Monday's awards gala because of team commitments.

Madrid says neither Portuguese nominee nor players Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos will be in Zurich because the team is traveling to Malaga for the return leg of their Copa del Rey series. Former Madrid players Zinedine Zidane and Emiliano Butragueno will represent the Spanish club.

Ronaldo is up against Barcelona pair Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernandez for the individual prize. Mourinho vies for a second straight coach of the year award with Barcelona counterpart Pep Guardiola and Manchester United's Alex Ferguson.

Ok ok I get it. What's the point of writing exams if you know you are going to fail. That's being clever, maybe next year when Ronaldo becomes a team player you'll send him to the gala. Maybe he'll then have a chance of winning. Really clever.
