The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Ajax Cape Town from Mamelodi Sundowns and netted four goals in 10 games for the now relegated side.
With Maritzburg short up front since Evans Rusike left for SuperSport in January, and having scored only once in four matches this season, Zakri's arrival will be a big boost for the KZN club.
Chairman Farook Kadodia is optimistic that Zakri will prove a success:
"We are confident that under Fadlu Davids and his technical team, Yannick will thrive. We always want to play an exciting brand of football and he will fit in well with our plans," Kadodia told the club's website.
"Yannick was training with the team while the deal was being done. He was warmly received by the players.
"It is a great signing for us. We always look to target the best players for the job. It is an investment to the city and supporters of the Team of Choice," he added.
Maritzburg are only next in action when they host Bidvest Wits on September 15.
