Cape Town - Orlando Pirates interim coach Rhulani Mokwena said his side must be gracious in defeat as they went down to Stellenbosch FC at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
A first-half strike by Iqraam Rayners was enough for the newly-promoted side as they claimed a famous win over the Soweto giants.
Mokwena saw his team control most the game but they could not break down a stubborn defence from the Cape Winelands team.
The Pirates interim coach told SuperSport TV after the game: "We must accept that 23 shots at goal, 70% almost possession, doesn't win you games.
"Congratulations to Stellenbosch. We go back to work, that's all we can do."
The defeat means the Buccaneers are now tenth in the PSL standings as they have only won twice in the first eight games of the season.
The caretaker head coach urged the Pirates fans to keep supporting the team.
Mokwena said: "To the Pirates fans they must just keep on supporting their players, keep supporting their team, the team loves them.
"They love the team, but you have to be gracious in defeat."
