Cape Town - Maritzburg United captain Siyanda Xulu says the club have big ambitions after being named the Team of the Year by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport and Recreation.
Maritzburg were awarded the prestigious prize after a superb 2017/18 season where they finished fourth in the Premiership and were losing finalists in the Nedbank Cup as well to Free State Stars.
In addition, United also recorded their biggest win in their history as they mauled Bloemfontein Celtic 4-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.
Speaking after receiving the award in Durban earlier this week, Xulu told reporters: "It is something that we went through last season. It was a great season for us and it showed that working together we can achieve more.
“When you talk about last season you talk about the unity we had. You talk about the brilliant players we had and this season we can achieve even more.
“What we did last season we can [do again], for sure. I'm very confident about that. The squad we have, I mean it is a brilliant squad. It's a very young squad and a talented squad...we just need to correct here and there.
“With experience I know a lot of things goes along with it. It comes with unity, it comes with a lot of hard work.”
