Wits thrash Lighstars

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits were rampant in their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Lightstars FC of Seychelles, strolling to a 6-0 win.

Sibusiso Vilakazi needed some treatment early on after a heavy blow to his knee, but the forward was back on the pitch soon afterwards to open the scoring in the 12th minute, going on a lovely solo run before slotting it home past Esther in goal. He was then substituted off in the 16th minute.

Keoikantse Mosiatlhaga then stood over a free kick, looking to cross it in towards a team-mate. None of them were able to get a head on it, nor were any of the Lightstars defence, and it eluded everyone to nestle in the back of the net, putting Wits two goals to the good.

It was then 3-0 at half-time, Jucie Lupeta found Maliele Pule just outside the box with a backheel and striker smashed it home first-time in the 39th minute.

Mosiatlhaga almost had his second when he attempted a cheeky little chip from outside the box, but the keeper was able to parry it out, before Lupeta did well to get to the byline and pull it back, but couldn't find a teammate.

Lupeta was at it again in the 57th minute, but this time his ball across picked out Liam Jordan, who supplied an emphatic finish.

Lupeta then played some neat passes with Dillon Shepherd around the opposition box to work a shooting opportunity for the latter, but he scuffed his effort, allowing the keeper to claim. A moment later and Jordan latched onto a cross, but saw his header deflected wide.

Lupeta then rounded off the scoring in the 87th minute, the South African side go through to the next round with a massive 9-0 aggregate win.
